Ingredients:
- Potatoes (russet or any starchy variety)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin strips about 1/4 inch thick. You can also use a French fry cutter for uniform slices.
- Soak the potato strips in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. This helps in achieving crispier fries.
- Drain the potato strips and pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 325°F (160°C).
- Carefully add the potato strips to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the fryer or pot.
- Fry the potatoes for about 5-6 minutes, or until they are just starting to turn golden brown but are still soft.
- Remove the partially cooked fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Increase the temperature of the oil to 375°F (190°C).
- Once the oil is hot, return the partially cooked fries to the oil in batches and fry for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until they are crispy and golden brown.
- Once done, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Immediately season the hot fries with salt to taste.
- Serve the crispy French fries hot with your favourite dipping sauce or condiment.
Enjoy your homemade crispy French fries!
